American Materials, Novel, The Outsiders

I think that, in the book “Ponyboy”, the Socs, red carpets or interpersonal rich youngsters from the western world, are more of the disgrace and menace to society than the “greasers”, the poorer students from the east. The Socs’ idea of entertaining is throwing big parties, including beverage blasts, and jumping greasers. They drive Mustangs, Corvairs and Corvettes. “Greasers happen to be almost like hats. They grab things, drive souped- up old vehicles, hold up gas stations and have gang fights once in a while”. Page 3′. Socs have on madras t-shirts, wine girl sweaters and ski outdoor jackets.

The greasers have on their hair lengthy, dress in blue jeans, Tshirts, leather jackets and tennis shoes or boots. Socs get editorials written about these people in the newspaper for being a public shame one day and an asset to society the next. Greasers, on the other hand, are generally known as juvenile delinquents because of their appearance and conduct. “We consider turns obtaining our brands in the pape”. Page forty eight. The Socs make underprivileged people’s lives distressing. Additionally they jump all of them for leg techinques. Ponyboy refers to them while cold blooded men who also are heartless and don’t think anything. “We’re sophisticated ” cool towards the point of not feeling. Nothing is genuine for us”. Page forty seven. Still, only some Socs are just like that.

For instance, Cherry wood Valance and Ponyboy Curtis get along, showing their appreciate for literary works and sunsets. Their connection can complete the distance between rich and poor. As Cherry said (on page 42), “things will be rough all over. ” Ahead of Ponyboy fulfilled Cherry, this individual thought all Socs were rich youngsters who acted cruelly without motivation. The Socs have zero loyalty, possibly to each other. Once Johnny stabbed Bob, all Bob’s friends ran off leaving him lying in a pool of his individual blood. “They ran when I stabbed him. They all ranPage 70. This kind of shows that everybody is for him self. But the greasers stick together like a big family whilst they are just good friends. They are ever present for each various other no matter what the condition is. For example , when Dally found out what Johnny do he gave him that gun and 50 dollars and told him where to cover until every thing was obvious. Dally experienced nothing to carry out with that, but he still helped them. Also, Johnny wanted to turn himself in because he didn’t think is was it reasonable for Ponyboy to stay, especially with Darry and Sodapop considering him. There were many types of violence found in this book, the two physical and emotional. The characters applied their fists, switchblades and guns.

They insulted each other and called each other trash. However the Socs viewed for battles to captivate themselves, usually attacking individuals who would be outnumbered by all of them. “The Socs are rough they company up on much more two”. Web page 37. The greasers only fought in self-defense or to back up a friend. When you consider privilege and underprivilege, loyalty and disloyalty, justness and unfairness, it is clear which group is truly a social disgrace and menace and which is basically trying to get by simply in the world. The greasers group together to try and survive their very own environment, while the Socs prey on everyone that they consider being weaker than they are. Which do you think is somewhat more menacing?
