Okonkwo was obviously a fierce warrior with a brief temper. He previously 3 girlfriends or wives and six children, and seemed to never fully enjoy any of them. This kind of character in the book “Things Fall season Apart”, written by Chinua Achebe, lived in the little African town of Umuofia, one of the eight making up all their tribe. Judging Okonkwo’s character of being a powder keg with a short fuse, it can no wonder that his celebrity and fame of being a great person sooner or later came crashing down.

Okonkwo liked the old practices. Why didn’t he? Okonkwo thrived about them. He served out being a legendary heart, he started to be the champion of the group and he built up his compound and yam farm building from practically nothing. So if the younger generation challenged the tradition that Okonkwo was your king of, Okonkwo rejected to be taken off his substantial throne. His dedication to his outdated ways built him therefore stubborn to the point where he would rather die than have to change his techniques.

Why did Okonkwo kill him self? There were many reasons. Okonkwo was afraid of being a coward like his father. Okonkwo was afraid of just how Umuofia got changed. Okonkwo was scared changing coming from being a big fish in a familiar fish-pond to becoming a little seafood in a new pond. Okonkwo was worried. His lifestyle was ruled by dread, committing activities only out of fear of people no more thinking having been as brave as he acted, like killing Ikemefuna.

Okonkwo was obviously a very interesting personality thought up by Chinua Achebe. There are many things that led to his downfall. This individual refused to leave go of his aged traditions, having been dedicated to his religion and he was life was ruled by dread. There were many times where he would have changed his sad destiny, but via his stubbornness he cannot open his mind to new things, eventually that being his disaster. If Okonkwo didn’t try to handle his fear simply by trying to guideline other people’s lives by fear of him, then simply maybe his life didn’t have decreased apart.
