“Her Kind” by Anne Sexton Analysis Essay

After browsing the poem “Her Kind” by Bea Sexton a whole lot of thought and emotion arises. It leaves a great deal to be inhibited and can be interpreted in many different methods depending on the target audience. I perceive it as the author figuratively, metaphorically describing her experience with manic episodes that she experienced, but she describes all of it in the second person perspective.

She writes of a “witch” who is darker spirited, “twelve fingered”, psychologically abnormal, and isolated via her community. I translate her information of the “witch” as a oman simply going through her darkest hour. She is angry, hurt, conflicted, depressed and likes to shy away from others. She feels unaccepted, misunderstood, and monstrous.

She is experiencing infuriated behavior because of the lack of ease and comfort within herself; A crazy woman used by her own thoughts. The Author explains the “witch” finding “Shelter in the woods”. I’m unsure if she’s referring to a proper physical place, but I believe it is symbolic for a way of thinking she switches into. The “woods” is her mental safe house so to speak.

Fixed the suppers for the earthworms and elves” I viewed as her calming her own thoughts of mischievous interference (as per elves), and when the lady speaks of worms she’s referring to the slow usage of her mental overall health which she’s trying to fight. “Whining, rearranging and disaligned ” is referencing the “witches” thought design and procedure. She has regular unorganized, sporting and droneful cognition. I feel sympathetic for Bea Sexton, who have I have affirmatively believe the poem can be regarding. It seems that she had trouble with her illness together to go through a lot to try to get some kind of mental stability. It seems aggravating, painful, and troublesome to have unmanageable thoughts of anger, sorrow, rage, and shame.
